Calvin Men's Track and Field Opens Outdoor Campaign at Rhodes Invitational

MEMPHIS, Tn. - Calvin opened competition at the two-day Rhodes Invitational on Friday.

Sophomore Justin Varineau (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian HS) had the race of the day for the Knights, winning the 10,000 meters in a time of 31:14.88. Varineau was one of five Knights to place in the top eight as sophomore Noah Cummisford (Mequon, Wisc./Homestead HS) was fourth (32.17.25), freshman Ryan Vreeke (Lakewood, Ca./Valley Christian HS) fifth (32:23.18), sophomore Micah Meindertsma (Caledonia, Mich./Caledonia HS) sixth (32:26.37) and senior Jonathan Randall (Hopkington, Mass./Whitinsville Christian HS) seventh (32:38.49).

In the 5,000 meters, sophomore Jonathan Ellis (Baltimore, Md./Towson HS) was second with a time of 14:48.46 while senior Jamison Koeman (Whitinsville, Mass./Whitinsville Chrisitan HS) was third (14:49.16).

Senior Brendan VanHouten (Comstock Park, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian HS) had a big performance in the hammer throw, taking sixth with a heave of 171-10.
