Calvin Men's Track and Field Team Opens Indoor Season at GVSU Holiday Open

ALLENDALE, Mich. - Calvin opened up its 2018-19 indoor season on Friday night at the Grand Valley Holiday Open.

The Knights had a handful of athletes competing in the competition.

In the long jump, senior Lee Barents (Redlands, Ca./Arrowhead Christian Academy) and junior Nathan Van Whye (Frankfort, Il./Lincoln-Way East HS) both jumped 21-2 1/2.

In the weight throw, sophomore Eric Van Eck (Yorba Linda, Ca./Hope PSP) had an impressive throw of 49-0 1/4.

Freshman Harold Gee (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian HS) had a time of 38.36 in the 300 meter run. Sophomore Matthew Blanker (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian HS) came up with a time of 2:00.43 in the 800 meters with senior Jacob Buday (Kalamazoo, Mich./Hackett Catholic Central HS) coming in at 2:03.78.

In the 600 meters, freshman Joaquin Martinez-Sabag (Newburg, Ind.) had a time of 1:30.76 with freshman Derek Ten Pas (Sioux Center, Ia./Sioux Center Community) right behind in 1:30.97. Freshman Jonathan Jansma (Grand Rapids, Mich./The Potter's House) whad a time of 1:32.25 with freshman Simon Detmer (Chicago, Il./Timothy Christian HS) clocking in at 1:43.44.
