NAPERVILLE, Il. – Calvin sophomore Caleb Ferguson (Naperville, Il./Neuqua Valley HS) had a happy homecoming Thursday night at the Gregory Invitational on the campus of North Central College. Ferguson took second in the 3,000 meter steeplechase with a career-best time of 9:08.13. The time places him 11th on the NCAA III list this spring and will all but assure Ferguson a trip to the NCAA III Outdoor Track and Field Championships for the second straight year.
Sophomore Tyler Johnson (Springfield, Il./Pleasant Plains HS) was 11th in the race (9:25.22), senior Matt Boelens (Bolton, Mass./Nashoba Regional HS) 18th (9:38.28) and sophomore Addison Smith (Seoul, South Korea/Seoul International School) 19th (9:40.95).
In the 1500 meter run, senior Mark DeJong (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian HS) took eighth with a season-best time of 3:57.68. Freshman Noah Cummisford (Mequon, Wisc./Homestead HS) took 11th in 3:59.31, eclipsing the four-minute mark for the first time in his career. Freshman Micah Meindertsma (Caledonia, Mich./Caledonia HS) was 25th in 4:15.92.
Calvin senior Ethan Valentine (Mason, Oh./William Mason HS) was third in the 400 meters with a time of 48.25. The quartet of senior Noah Buteyn (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian HS), junior Luke Peterson (Holland, Mich./Holland Christian HS), junior James Jeninga (Brookfield, Wisc./Milwaukee Lutheran HS) took seventh with a time of 3:19.15
