Calvin Men's Track and Field Team Competes at GVSU Last-Chance Meet

ALLENDALE, Mich. - A small group representing the Calvin men's track and field team competed at a last-chance meet hosted by Grand Valley State University Wednesday afternoon.

Calvin took the top two spots in the 1500 meter run with freshman Noah Cummisford (Mequon, Wisc./Homestead HS) winning the race in a tie of 4:13.11 with freshman Micah Meindertsma (Caledonia, Mich./Caledonia HS) taking second (4:16.94.

Calvin also took three of the top five spots in the 5,000 meter run. Freshman Charlie Korneolje (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian HS) took first in a time of 16:45.51 with sophomore Jason Klaasen (Jenison, Mich./Unity Christian HS) taking second (16:55.67) and sophomore Ryan VanAppeldoorn (Holland, Mich./Holland Christian HS) taking fifth (18:11.64).

In the long jump, junior Lee Barents (Redlands, Ca./Arrowhead Christian HS) was fifth (20-11.25).

Junior Josh VanDyk (Tinley Park, Il./Chicago Christian HS) was sixth in the 800 meters (1:59.94) while sophomore Jacob Veenstra (North Haledon, NJ/Eastern Christian HS) was 13th (2:06.74).

In the discus, junior Brendan VanHouten (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian HS) was 10th (152-2).

A larger group of Calvin track and field athletes will compete at the Dr. Keeler Invitational Thursday and Friday at North Central College.
