Calvin Men's Track and Field Team Takes Early Lead at MIAA Championships

Calvin scored in four events on Thursday to pile up its first place total.

Calvin's biggest point producing event was the 10,000 meter run as the Knights took three of the top seven spots. Junior Jamison Koeman (Whitinsville, Mass./Whitinsville Christian HS) led the way with a second place finish in a time of 32:14.17. Freshman Jonathan Ellis (Baltimore, Md./Towson HS) was third (32:41.88) and junior Jonathan Randall (Hopkington, Mass./Whitinsville Christian HS) seventh (33:56.08).

Sophomore Jordan Jorritsma (Holland, Mich./Holland Christian HS) took second in the javelin (157-10).

In the shot put, junior Brendan VanHouten (Comstock Park, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian HS) was third (45-0 1/2) and sophomore Jayvin Wolfe (Middleton, Mich./Fulton HS) seventh (43-1).

Calvin also scored twice in the long jump. Sophomore Nathan Van Wyhe (Frankfort, Il./Lincoln-Way East HS) was second (21-2 3/4) and junior Lee Barents (Redlands, Ca./Arrowhead Christian) seventh (20-9).

Action continues with field events on Friday morning.
