Calvin Men's Tennis Blazes By Bethel

MISHAWAKA, Ind. – The Calvin men's Tennis team defeated Bethel 8-1 on Thursday evening in a non-conference contest. 

In singles competition, Jacob Macri defeated senior Jose Larrea (Caracas, Venezuela / U.E. Colegio San Jose)6-0, 6-2 at No. 1 singles. At No. 2, senior Jason Wolters (Hudsonville, Mich. / Unity Christian) defeated Jose Morales 6-3, 6-1.

Sophomore Max Stallings (Grosse Pointe Woods, Mich. / North)defeated Brian Shembarger 6-2, 6-2 and No. 3 singles. At No 4, freshman Konner Shapiro (Bloomington, IN. / Bloomington South)defeated Jeryl Weaver 6-0, 6-1.

At No. 5 singles, freshman Brandon Johnson (Midland, Mich. / Midland High School)defeated Chase Brown 6-2, 6-0. Closing out singles play was No. 6 junior Kyrus Tsai (Glenview, Ill. / Glenbrook South) with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Grant Spomer.

In doubles competition, the team of Jose Larrea and Max Stallings defeated Jacob Macri and Jose Morales 8-5 at No. 1 doubles. 

At No. 2, the duo of Jason Wolters and Owen Brookhouse defeated Brian Shembarger and Jeryl Weaver 8-7 (7-4). 

Rounding out doubles action at No. 3 with an 8-1 win was the team of Charlie Fahr and Cobe Benzel over Chase Brown and Grant Spomer. 

The Knights return to action on Saturday as they host Olivet for a conference contest a 1 p.m.
