Calvin Men's Tennis Splits on Final Day of Spring Break Trip

ORLANDO, Fla. - Calvin closed out its spring trip to Florida on Friday, defeating Brooklyn College 9-0 and falling to Luther 8-1.

The Knights are now 6-4 heading into a pair of home matches next week.

In the win over Brooklyn, Calvin cruised to three quick wins in doubles. Senior Jose Larea (Caracas, Venezuela/U.E. Colegio San Jose) and sophomore Max Stallings (Grosse Pointe Woods, Mich./Grosse Pointe North HS) were 8-2 winners at No. 1 doubles. Senior Jason Wolters (Hudsonville, Mich./Unity Christian HS) and junior Owen Brookhouse (Whitinsville, Mass./Whitinsville Christian HS) won 8-0 at No. 2 doubles and freshman Konner Shapiro (Bloomington, Ind./Bloomington South HS) and junior Kyrus Tsai (Glenview, Il./Glenbrook South HS) were 8-0 winners ast No. 3 doubles.

Freshman Brandon Johnson (Midland, Mich./Midland HS) picked up a 6-3, 7-6 win over Justin Vazquez at No. 1 singles. Jason Wolters defeated Jonathan Lum 6-0, 6-1. Kyrus Tsai dropped Andor Kasuba 6-0, 6-1. Junior Daniel Huan (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian HS) was a 6-0, 6-2 winner over Christian Pena.

In the loss to Luther, Larrea picked up Calvin's lone point, winning at No. 1 singles 5-7, 6-4, 10-4 over Cole Schneider.

The Knights return to action on Wednesday when they host Spring Arbor at 3:30 p.m.
