Calvin Men's Tennis Rolls Over Lakeland and Lake Forest

Calvin concluded its swing through Wisconsin and Illinois with victories over Lakeland and Lake Forest on Saturday.

The Knights improve to 5-1 on the season.

Calvin opened the day with a 9-0 victory over Lakeland Saturday morning at the Sports Core Center in Kohler, Wisconsin.

Senior Jose' Larrea (Caracas, Venezuela/U.E. Colegio San Jose) and sophomore Max Stallings (Grosse Pointe Woods, Mich./Grosse Pointe North HS) were an 8-0 winner at No. 1 doubles. Junior Cobe Benzel (San Dimas, Ca./San Dimas HS) and senior Charlie Fahr (Milwaukee, Wisc./Wauwatosa East HS) won 8-1 at No. 2 doubles. Freshman Konnor Shapiro (Bloomington, Ind./Bloomington South HS) and junior Kyrus Tsai (Glenview, Il./Glenbrook South HS) were 8-0 winner at No. 3 doubles.

Senior Jason Wolters (Hudsonville, Mich./Unity Christian HS) downed Jared Nummerdor 6-0, 6-1 at No. 1 singles. Stallings dropped Nick Lange 6-0, 6-1 at No. 2 singles. Junior Owen Brookhouse (Whitinsville, Mass./Whitinsville Christian HS) was a 6-0, 6-0 winner over Aaron Smith at No. 3 singles. Freshman Brandon Johnson (Midland, Mich./Midland HS) picked up a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Jacob Larson at No. 4 singles. Tsai defeated Nate Nanda 6-1, 6-1 at No. 5 singles. Benzel defeated Bill Behrmann 6-0, 6-0 at No. 6 singles.

Calvin then moved over to Lake Bluff, Illinois, Saturday evening where the Knights took on Lake Forest College at the Racquet Club of Lake Bluff.

The Knights swept the three doubles points. Larrea and Stallings won 8-3 at No. 1 doubles. Wolters and Brookhouse won 8-3 at No. 2 doubles. Shapiro and Tsai then won 8-3 at No. 3 doubles.

At No. 1 singles, Larrea defeated Matt Kacyn 6-3, 6-1. Wolters dropped Aidan Burke 6-1, 6-1 at No. 2 singles. Stallings was a 6-1, 6-2 winner at No. 3 singles. Benzel defeated Matthew Pawlowski 6-0, 6-3 at No. 5 singles. Johnson was a 6-0, 7-5 winner at No. 6 singles.

Calvin returns to action on Saturday when it hosts Illinois Tech at 2 p.m. inside the Huizenga Tennis and Track Center.
