Calvin Men's Tennis Claims Victories Over Wisconsin Lutheran and Ripon

Calvin picked up a pair of non-conference victories in Wisconsin to improve to 3-1 on the young season. Calvin defeated Wisconsin Lutheran 9-0 Thursday and then topped Ripon 9-0 on Friday.

In Thursday's win over Wisconsin Lutheran on Thursday, the Knights picked up four points by default, two in singles play and two in doubles play.

Playing in his home state, senior Charlie Fahr (Milwaukee, Wisc./Wauwatosa East HS) teamed up with junior Cobe Benzel (San Dimas, Ca./San Dimas HS) to defeat Johnny Wordell and Matt Plaski 9-0 at No. 1 singles. Junior Kyrus Tsai (Glenview, Il./Glenbrook South HS) and freshman Konner Shapiro (Bloomington, Ind./Bloomington South HS) won by default at No. 2 doubles while senior Jose' Larrea (Caracas, Venezuela/U.E. Colegio San Jose) and sophomore Max Stallings (Grosse Pointe Woods, Mich./Grosse Pointe North HS) won by default at No. 3 doubles.

Junior Owen Brookhouse (Whitinsville, Mass./Whitinsville Christian HS) defeated Plaski 6-1, 6-0 at No. 2 singles, senior Jason Wolters (Hudsonville, Mich./Unity Christian HS) defeated Tyler Fahney 6-0, 6-0 at No. 3 singles and Stallings defeated Jake Stellick 6-0, 6-0 at No. 4 singles. Freshman Brandon Johnson (Midland, Mich./Midland HS) won at No. 5 singles by default as did Fahr at No. 6 singles.

In the victory over Ripon Friday, Larrea and Stallings defeated Drew Jorgenson and Marcus Austin 6-2, 6-0 at No. 1 doubles. Wolters and Brookhouse defeated Adrian Granados and Junmo Kwon 8-0 at No. 2 doubles. Tsai and Shapiro then claimed an 8-0 triumph over Preston Wurtz and Daniel Garcia at No. 3 doubles.

Larrea dropped Jorgenson 6-1, 6-0 at No. 1 singles. Fahr flew by Granados 6-1, 6-0 at No. 2 singles. Benzel topped Wurtz 6-1, 6-1 at No, 3 singles. Tsai slipped by Austin 6-3, 6-1 at No. 4 singles. Johnson jumped past Garcia 6-0, 6-1 at No. 5 singles and Shapiro shut the door on Kwon 6-1, 6-0 at No. 6 singles.

Calvin will face Lakeland College and Lake Forest College in Saturday action.
