GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Calvin men's tennis team kept the winning ways rolling on Monday. The Knights won their fifth-straight match with a 9-0 victory over Bethel of Indiana. The victory propels Calvin to 13-2 on the year and sends Bethel to 6-11.
"Today was a good way to start a busy week," said head coach John Ross. "I am happy with how the guys played today. We will have to rest up tonight and prepare for Olivet tomorrow."
Senior Matt Van Winkle (St. Joseph, Mich./St. Joseph) secured the doubles sweep at No. 1 doubles. Besting Jacob Macri and Jose Morales, 8-5.
Matt Van Winkle struck first for the Knights in singles play. Defeating Jose Morales at No. 3 singles, 6-2, 6-2.
David Brown bounced Sidney Petersen at No. 4 singles, 6-4, 6-2.
Rodrigo Castellanos Vaca Guzmán shot down Jacob Macri at No. 1 singles, 7-6, 6-2.
Jose Larrea won a three-set thriller over Evan Furguson, 6-0, 6-7, 10-6.
Max Stallings sat down Brian Shembarger at No. 5 singles, 6-3, 6-0.
Junior Charlie Fahr (Milwaukee, Wis./Wauwatosa East) finished the match at No. 6 singles with a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Jeryl Weaver.
The Knights have won seven 9-0 matches this year.
Calvin is back in action on Tuesday against Olivet.
