Calvin Men's Swimming and Diving Posts 2-1 Weekend Dual Meet Record

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The Calvin men's swimming and diving program had a busy weekend as it split up its squad to compete in dual meets at the University of Chicago and at home against Olivet.

Calvin went 2-1 in dual meet competition Saturday.

At home, Calvin defeated Olivet 163-86. In a triangular at the University of Chicago, Calvin defeated DePauw 136-120 and fell to the University of Chicago 217-60 in a meeting of nationally-ranked teams. Calvin entered the meet ranked 15th in the Division III Top 25 College Swim Coaches Association poll while the University of Chicago came in ranked seventh.

The Knights had a handful of multi-event winners in the meet with Olivet.

Junior Tim Randall (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian HS) was a winner in the 1,000 freestyle (10:16.09), 50 freestyle (22.87) and 100 freestyle (49.32). He also teamed up with junior Luke Herman (Waterford, Wisc./Burlington HS), freshman Joel Bruinsma (Holland, Mich./Holland HS) and junior James Kempa (Granger, Ind./Penn) in the 400 freestyle relay to win in a time of 3:23.12.

Herman won the 200 freestyle (1:53.46). Sophomore Lucas Holcombe (Ann Arbor, Mich./Huron HS) took home first place in the 200 butterfly (2:06.99) and 100 butterfly (55.13). Freshman Nick Peeps (Toledo, Oh./St. Francis deSales School) took first in the 100 breaststroke (1:02.15) and 200 breaststroke (2:18.26). Sophomore Dominic Timmer (Jenison, Mich./Jenison HS) was a winner in the 500 freestyle (5:18.26). Holcombe, Peppes, Herman and junior Jacob Deysher (Colorado Springs, Co./Palmer Ridge HS) cruised to a first place win in a time of 1:41.79.

In the triangular at the University of Chicago, Calvin had several strong swims.

Junior Brian Goins (Rochester Hills, Mich./Rochester Adams HS) was third in the 1,000 freestyle (10:37.49). Sophomore Julian Iturbe (Caracas, Venezuela/Colegio Emil Friedman) was second in the 100 freestyle (47.92), third in the 200 freestyle (1:43.52) and third in the 500 freestyle (4:44.33).

Senior Skyler Fish (Ionia, Mich./Ionia HS) was second in the 100 backstroke (53.90) and fourth in the 200 backstroke (1:58.97).

Calvin's 200 medley relay team of Fish, junior Sam Holstege (Keswick, Va./Covenant School), senior Nate Olberding (Noblesville, Ind./Noblesville HS) and freshman Noah Holstege (Keswick, Va./Covenant School) took third in a time of 1:37.34.

Olberding was fourth in the 200 butterfly (1:59.41) and third in the 100 butterfly (53.21).

Freshman Noah Holstege (Keswick, Va./Covenant School) was third in the 50 freestyle (22.04).

Calvin capped off the meet by winning the 200 freestyle relay in a time of 1:26.23. The Calvin relay consisted of freshman Noah Holstege (Keswick, Va./Covenant School), Fish, Iturbe and senior Jacob Lensing (Pella, Ia./Pella Christian HS).

The Knights are back in action on Saturday when they host Kalamazoo on Senior Day in a dual meet slated to start at 1 p.m.
