For the first time in his collegiate career, Calvin College sophomore Ryan Gelderloos has been named MIAA Men's Swimmer of the Week.
A native of Grand Rapids and a graduate of Grand Rapids Christian High School, Gelderloos piled up multiple personal best times this past weekend at the Calvin Winter Invitational.
In the 100 butterfly, Gelderloos clocked a personal best time of 51.91 in the prelims on Saturday morning and later took 13th in the evening finals with a time of 51.95.
In the 200 butterfly, he took 15th with a time of 1:58.34. In the morning prelims, he produced a personal best time of 1:57.39. In the 200 IM he came up with a season best time of 1:58.93 that was good for 13th place.
He helped his 400 freestyle relay team placed 10th with a personal best time of 47.49 in the leadoff leg.
In the prelims of the 400 IM, he clocked a personal best time of 4:19.54. He was also a part of Calvin's 800 freestyle relay team that placed 11th, swimming a time of 1:46.96 as the relay's anchor leg. In addition, he was a part of Calvin's 12th place 200 medley relay team that recorded a time of 1:34.40.
Over the three-day invitational, Calvin recorded a final team total of 1,230 points, trailing only Division II Northern Michigan (2,042 points) and Grand Valley State (1,910 points).
