WHEATON, Ill. – The Calvin men's swimming & diving team edged Wheaton on Saturday, 148-118. The Knights improve to 1-1 on the year and 1-0 against NCAA Division III competition.
"It was our best performance on the road in a couple years," said head coach Dan Gelderloos. "Good things happen when we realize it is not about ourselves and we learn to ask questions."
The Maroon and Gold opened the meet with a victory in the 200-yard medley relay. The team of senior Ben Holstege (Keswick, Va./Covenant), junior Fear Churchwell (Athens, Ga./Clarke Central), senior Jared Britton (Falls Church, Va./George Mason) and freshman Noah Holstege (Keswick, Va./Covenant) won at 1:34.53.
Sophomore Julian Iturbe (Caracas, Venezuela / Colegio Emil Friedman) won the 100-yard freestyle at 10:05.76. Itrube also won the 100-yard freestyle at 47.86.
In the 100-yard backstroke, Ben Holstege won with a time of 50.96.
Fear Churchwell touched the wall first in the 100-yard breaststroke at 1:01.50.
Senior Skyler Fish (Ionia, Mich./Ionia) was the fastest swimmer in the 200-yard backstroke at 1:57.41.
In the 500-yard freestyle, junior Tim Randall (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian) was victorious at 4:58.31.
Ben Holstege won the 100-yard butterfly at 51.56.
The Knights will travel to Wayne State on Friday.
