ALBION, Mich. – The Calvin men's swimming & diving team fell at Albion on Saturday, 171-129. Calvin moves to 2-3 in dual meets and 1-1 against MIAA schools. Calvin won six events on Saturday.
"The men had a rough day on the road against the defending champions," said head coach Dan Gelderloos. "We will move forward and continue preparing for the championship meets."
Calvin started the day with a second-place finish in the 200-yard medley relay. The team of junior Ben Holstege (Keswick, Va./Covenant), senior Tanner Vincent (Novi, Mich./Novi), junior Jared Britton (Falls Church, Va./George Mason) and freshman Julian Iturbe (Caracas, Venezuela / Colegio Emil Friedman) finished at 1:35.41.
Julian Iturbe notched the first victory of the day for the Calvin men. Iturbe clocked in a winning time of 1:46.53. He also won in the 200-yard individual medley at 2:00.22.
In the 100-yard backstroke, Ben Holstege broke the pool record at 51.32.
Senior Michael Moentmann (Solon, Ohio/Solon) was victorious on the 1-meter boards on Saturday with 297.35 points.
Tanner Vincent placed second in the 200-yard butterfly at 1:59.40.
Jared Britton finished in second place at 22.06 in the 50-yard freestyle.
In the 100-yard freestyle, senior Max DeYoung (Grand Rapids, Mich./Forest Hills Eastern) recorded a second-place finish at 49.35.
Ben Holstege was victorious in the 200-yard backstroke at 1:57.08.
The Knights return to action on Friday at Rose Hulman.
