Calvin's Brett Stoughton Repeats as CoSIDA Academic All-American

For the second consecutive year, Calvin College senior Brett Stoughton has been named a CoSIDA Academic All-American in the men's at-large division.

Stoughton has been named to the CoSIDA Academic All-America first team this spring after receiving second team honors last years.The men's at-large division includes the sports of fencing, golf, gymnastics, ice hockey, lacrosse, rifle, skiing, swimming and diving, tennis, volleyball, water polo and wrestling.

A native of Centerville, Indiana, Stoughton is now eligible for CoSIDA Academic All-America consideration. A graduate of Centerville High School, Stoughton recently completed another standout season on the Calvin men's swimming and diving team.

At the MIAA Championships, Stoughton placed third in the 100 butterfly with a career-best time of 49.49. He also placed third in the 200 butterfly with a time of 1:52.48. He added a fifth place swim in the 200 IM (1:55.05). In addition, he was a member of Calvin's 400 medley relay team that came in second with a time of 3:21.27 and a member of Calvin's 200 medley relay team that placed second in a time of 1:31.50.

In addition, he was part of Calvin's 200 medley relay team that qualified for the NCAA III Championships and placed 11th to earn honorable mention NCAA III All-America status.
A four-time national qualifier, he has been a part of four honorable mention All-America relays at Calvin. In 2016, he was part of an honorable mention All-America 400 medley relay that placed 10th. In 2015 he was a part of a 400 medley relay team that placed 16th. In 2014, he was part of Calvin's 400 medley relay team that placed 12th.

Stoughton is a four-time All-MIAA selection. During the 2016-17 season, he was selected MIAA Swimmer of the Week once. During his career, he has been a three-time MIAA champion in the 200 butterfly and has helped Calvin capture the first three MIAA (overall) team championships in program history.

At the 2015 NCAA III Championships, Stoughton was named the men's swimming and diving recipient of the NCAA's Elite 89 Award for maintaining the highest cumulative grade point average of any male competitor at the national meet.

A business finance major at Calvin, Stoughton carries a 4.0 grade point average.

Calvin student-athletes have now received CoSIDA Academic All-America honors 120 times.
