Calvin Men's Soccer Defeats Albion and Claims MIAA Conference Title

ALBION, Mich. – The Calvin Men's Soccer team defeated Albion College 4-1 in its final conference match of the season. 

With tonight's victory, the Knights claimed the MIAA Conference title with a perfect 7-0 record. Adrian and Trine tied for second in the league both with a 5-2 record.

The Knights came out strong in the match as junior Ian Adams (Grand Rapids, Michigan/ Grand Rapids Christian) found senior Bobby McCaw (Dubuque, Iowa / Hempstead)in the seventh minute and gave Calvin the early lead. 

Albion struck next in the 22nd minute as Kyle Bourlier located Jason Warras and he put one in the net for the Britons to tie things up. 

Calvin regained the lead six minutes later as this time McCaw found senior Jacob Witte (Grand Rapids, Mich. / Grand Rapids Christian) who fired one passed the keeper. This was Witte's 12th goal of the season. 

With the second half underway, it didn't take long for the Knights to attack as once again Adams found McCaw and he recorded his second goal of the game, 16th on the season. 

Calvin found one more opportunity to score in the final minute of play as junior Hunter Olson (Canton, Mich. / Canton) scored and the Knights sealed the victory.  

Calvin outshot Albion 26 to 3. Calvin goal keeper sophomore Chris Morrish (Bradenton, Fla. / Saints Stephen's Episcopal School) had one save on goal. 

Head coach Ryan Souders stated, "Great to get a road result against a physical Albion side. To be able to clinch an MIAA title is amazing. These guys have been working for this all year and I'm proud to see that work rewarded. Now we have to tighten some things up and prep for the conference tournament." 

The Knights are now 15-1 on the season as they head into the MIAA Tournament. 

With a #1 seed, Calvin will get a by for the first round of the MIAA tournament and will host an MIAA Semifinal match on October 30th. The Knights will take on the winner of Hope vs. Kalamazoo.
