The Calvin men's lacrosse team is set to open it 2019 campaign on Saturday when the Knights host Carthage College at 1 p.m. at Grand Rapids Christian High School.
Under the direction of third-year head coach Dave Hoger, the Knights will be seeking to improve upon a 4-13 campaign from a year ago. The Knights feature of roster of 26 players including 17 returning letterwinners.
The Knights will be led by tri-captains Noah Nedd (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian HS), Joel DeJonge (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian HS) and Austin Bontreger (Fishers, Ind/Heritage Christian HS). A short pole midfielder, Nedd was a member of the 2017 All-MIAA First Team before missing a substantial portion of the 2018 season due to injury.
DeJonge is a key part of the Calvin defense while Bontreger is an attacking midfielder who tallied 14 goals last year. Another senior to watch is attacker Max Foster (Bloomfield Hills, Mich./Brother Rice HS) who put 14 goals in the back of the net last season.
Calvin was picked to finish sixth in the MIAA preseason coaches' poll. The Knights finished in a three-way tie for sixth place in the league standings last spring.
