GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The men's lacrosse team announced its captains for the upcoming 2017 season. Ethan Brown, Chris Griffin, and Joel Schaefer were chosen to lead and represent the lacrosse program. The Knights look to build off of a record-breaking season in 2016.
"I can't say enough about Chris, Joel and Ethan as leaders," said head coach Dave Hoger. "They have done a great job of keeping our team united despite the challenges they have faced over the years. Their work ethic, resiliency, and love for one another has laid the ground work for this season and for the future of our program and has provided our younger guys with a great example to follow. They consistently make our team better on and off the field and I am honored to be their coach."
Ethan Brown is a junior defender from Falmouth, Maine, and a sport management major. He was tied for first on the team last season with 83 ground balls and led Calvin with 41 caused turnovers. In his two years at Calvin, Brown has tallied four goals, three assists, 131 ground balls and caused 59 turnovers.
Chris Griffin is a senior attackman from Hartland, Michigan, who is also a mechanical engineering major. Griffin led the Knights in points in 2016 with scored 36 goals and 28 assists last season. In his Calvin career, Griffin has scored 68 goals and tallied 48 assists in 44 games.
Joel Schaefer is a senior midfielder from Clarksville, Maryland. He majors in mechanical engineering and serves our country as an active duty enlisted collegiate in the U.S. Navy. Last season, Schaefer scored 23 goals, adding 12 assists, while playing in all 16 games. As Calvin he scored 52 goals, with 16 assists.
The Knights start the season on Feb. 25 at Ohio Northern. The first home game will be on March 16 against Northland.
