Men’s Golf Finishes Second in First Automatic Qualifier

WEST OLIVE, Mich. – The Calvin men's golf team recorded a second-place finish in the first of three MIAA Automatic Qualifiers on Saturday afternoon. The Knights finished in second place at 285 strokes. No. 11 Hope finished first with 284. The next two rounds will be played at Calvin.

"We had some good rounds today," said Dr. Brian Bolt. "We are right in the middle of the hunt and we have two big rounds next week. We are looking forward to playing on our home course."

Senior John Van Noord (Troy, Mich. / Oakland Christian) finished tied for second place at 70 strokes.

Senior Ben VanScoyk (Grand Rapids, Mich. / Grand Rapids Christian) and freshman Sam Holland (Novi, Mich. / Detroit Catholic Central) finished for fifth place at 71 strokes.

Junior Sam Kuiper (Grand Rapids, Mich. / Grand Rapids Christian) recorded a round of 73 strokes on Saturday.

Junior Alec DeJonge (Niles, Mich. / Brandywine) finished the day with 82 strokes.

Josh Gibson of Hope was the medalist at 67 strokes.

Calvin returns to action on Friday for the second round.
