The Calvin Knights ACHA D3 Hockey Team fell to the Western Michigan Broncos 3-1 on Saturday night.
In the first period both teams came out strong looking to find the early go ahead goal. Throughout the first period both teams got chances in front of goal but neither one could find the breakthrough. Late in the first the Broncos found the go ahead goal with .5 left to go. The first period ended with the Knights behind 1-0.
In the second period the Broncos tallied two more goal to take a 3-0 lead. The Knights battled back hard but could not find a way to sneak one past the Broncos goaltender. The second period ended with the Knights down 3-0.
In the third period the Knights finally found a breakthrough with a powerplay goal from Tyler Groot with the assists from Mitchell Niesar and Will Houskamp. The Knights looked to find the back of the net a couple more times but again could not find a way through the Broncos defense. The third period concluded with a Broncos win over the Knights 3-1.
Knights Goaltender Brett Avery had a strong game with 31 saves on the night.
