The Calvin Knights ACHA D3 Hockey Team fell to Grand Valley State University 6-1 on Friday night.
The first period started out strong for both the Lakers and the Knights. Both teams fought back and forth early in the first. Then the Lakers found the back of the net for the first goal of the game. Soon after the Lakers first goal the Knights found a goal of their own. The goal came from Sam Boelema with the assists from Blake Jarrett and Jake Panzer. The first period concluded with the score tied 1-1.
The second period was all Lakers. The Lakers went on to score four unanswered goals. The Knights fought back hard but could not find the back of the net. The second period ended with the Lakers in the lead 5-1.
In the third period the Knights gave it all they had but still could not find the breakthrough. Once again the Lakers added to their lead and scored once more. The game concluded with a final score of 6-1.
Knights goaltender Brett Avery had a big game with 50 saves on the night.
