The Calvin Knights ACHA D3 Hockey Team defeated the Northwood Timberwolves 7-3 on Friday night.
The Knights came out strong in the first period and found the back of the net first with a goal from Will Housekamp with the assists coming from Zach Nowak and Tyler Groot. The Knights went on to score their second goal of the game late in the first period with a goal from Zach Nowak with the helper from Will Housekamp. Soon after the Timberwolves found the back of the net to cut the Knights lead down to 2-1. Then with 14 seconds left to go in the first period the Timberwolves found the equalizer to head into the second period at a score of 2-2.
The second period began similiar to the first back and forth action except neither team could find the back of the net. Late in the second the Knights finally broke through the Timberwolves defence and got a goal from Ben Morse with the assist from Jake Panzer. The second period ended with the Knights on top 3-2.
The third period was all Calvin, with the Knights putting up four goals in the third period. The first goal in the third came from Zach Nowak with the helpers from Jon Hull and Will Housekamp. Zach Nowak also put up the second goal for the Knights in the third period which also completed his hat-trick for the night. The next goal for the Knights came from Jake Oakes with the assists from Nathan Pohl and Blake Jarrett. And finally the seventh goal for the Knights came from Will Housekamp for his second goal of the night. With the four unanswered goals in the third the Knights were able to walk away with a 7-3 win over the Timberwolves.
Knights goaltender Brett Avery had a big game with 43 saves on the night.
