John Rypel Steps Down as Calvin Head Baseball Coach to Take New Role With UAB Baseball Program

John Rypel is stepping down as Calvin head baseball coach to accept a new position with the University of Alabama Birmingham baseball program.

Rypel is leaving Calvin after serving the school as head coach the last four years.

During his tenure as Calvin head baseball coach, he led the Knights to three berths in the MIAA Tournament including a trip to the MIAA Tournament finals in 2015.

"While I am excited for John and his family for their new opportunity, it is always hard to say goodbye to a valued colleague and friend," said Calvin Director of Athletics Dr. Jim Timmer. "I would like to thank John for his service to Calvin over the last four years and we wish him all the best in his future pursuits."

According to Timmer, a national search to find a replacement for Rypel will begin immediately.
