The Calvin Knights ACHA D1 Hockey Team fell to UM-Dearborn 3-1 on Saturday night.
In the first period both teams came out with high energy and tempo. The Knights looked to strike early with a couple good chances in the early minutes of the period, but they could not find the back of the net. The Wolverines looked to counter the Knights first attempts at goal and started to press with an attack of their own. The Knights defense held strong and kept the Wolverines off the scoresheet in the first period. The Knights recieved a couple more good chances but could not capitalize on their opportunities. The first period concluded with the game scoreless at 0-0.
In the second period the Wolverines turned up the pressure. They got good chances and were able to put away two goals of their own on the Knights. The Knights looked to find one of their own but could not find a way through the Wolverines defense. The second period ended with the Wolverines still in the lead by a score of 2-0.
In the third period the Knights came out looking to give everything they had left to try and breakdown the Wolverines. Halfway through the third period the Knights finally found the back of the net with a breakaway goal from Keegan Weckesser. After the goal the Knights started to scramble and put on more pressure as they looked for the equalizer. With about two minutes to go in the game the Knights pulled their goalie for the extra skater to make one last push for the second goal. Even with the Knights constant pressure the Wolverines found a way to put in an empty net goal and seal the the game. The Wolverines came out victorious over the Knights by a score of 3-1.
Knights goaltender Darin Fox had an amazing night with 42 saves.
