The Calvin Knights ACHA D1 Hockey Team defeated the Toledo Rockets 6-4 on Saturday night.
Coming off a tough loss to the Rockets on Friday night the Knights looked for redemption on Saturday. The Knights came out strong in the first period looking to find the first goal of the game. But it was the Rockets to strike first. The Knights fought back hard and found the equalizer late in the first period with a goal from Keegan Weckesser and the assists from Josh Hartlein and Christian Gums. The first period concluded with the game tied 1-1.
In the second period the Knights found the back of the net twice in the first four minutes of the period. The first goal of the period for the Knights came from Samuel Dexter with the helper from Billy Oakes. The next goal for the Knights was scored by Spencer Rowlette with the assists from Garrett Pitter and Garrett Medina. A few minutes later the Knights tallied another goal, this one coming from Jared Virtanen with the helpers from Riley Robertson and Josh Hartlein. The Rockets fought hard late and found a goal of their own. The second period concluded with a score of 4-2.
In the third period the Rockets came out strong scoring two goals to tie the game at four. Soon after the Rockets had tied the game the Knights scored another goal, this one coming from Samuel Dexter with the assist from Keegan Weckesser. Just a few minutes later the Knights scored once more with a goal from Jared Virtanen with the helper from Garrett Medina. The game ended with a Knights victory over the Rockets 6-4.
Knights goaltender Alex Gross was credited with 19 saves on the night which helped lead the Knights to the win.
