Calvin College Finishes 26th in Final 2017-18 Learfield Directors' Cup Standings

Calvin College has finished 26th in the final 2017-18 Learfield Director's Cup standings. 

Calvin has finished 26th in the final 2017-18 NCAA III Learfield Directors' Cup standings with a total of 515.50 points. Calvin has finished in the top 30 of the Learfield Director's Cup standings 23 consecutive years. In addition, Calvin is one of only nine schools to finish in the top 40 of the Division III Director's Cup standings every year since the competition begin with the 1995-96 academic year.

"It is great to be recognized on a national stage," said Calvin Director of Athletics Dr. Jim Timmer. "We are blessed at Calvin to have a wonderful athletics program and our entire campus can be proud of this accomplishment." 

Williams won the 2017-18 title as the best athletics program in the nation in Division III with a score of 1,126.25 points. 

The Cup is presented annually by the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and Learfield Sports to the best overall collegiate athletics programs in the country, and is based on points earned by teams that compete in NCAA Championship events. 

Division III points are awarded based on finish in championship competition. Each national champion receives 100 points with a national runner-up finish worth 90 points. Third place is worth 80 points and fourth place finishes count for 75 points with a sliding point scale continuing on down by order of finish. 

Calvin picked up 137.5 points during the spring sports season. The Calvin women's lacrosse team reached the second round of the NCAA III Tournament, its softball team advanced to the regional final of the NCAAIII Tournament, its women's outdoor track and field team was 41st at the NCAA III Championships and its men's track and field took 77th at the NCAA III Championships. 

Combined, 10 of Calvin's 21 sports teams scored Directors' Cup points during the 2017-18 academic year.
