GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Calvin student-athletes helped volunteer at the Special Olympics of Michigan Spring Games on Saturday, May 5. Members of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) and other student-athletes joined in on the volunteering.
"It is always great to partner with the Special Olympics of Michigan," said SAAC Advisor Becky Hilgert. "The Southwest Regional Games at Calvin is a big event and it is an awesome chance for our athletes to work with Special Olympic athletes. Our SAAC student-athletes staffed our welcome tent and enjoyed interacting and getting to know the participants. It was a great day for our student-athletes to represent Calvin while giving back to the community."
Student-athletes helped run events, provide water and snacks, assisted athletes in getting to events, chaperoned athletes, and made friendships with the athletes.
"Working with the Special Olympics is always one of the highlights of the year," said SAAC President Emma Hall." We all share a love of sports and it is always fun to watch the athletes compete. It is also nice to see student-athletes take tie from their busy schedules to come out."
